Dr. Howard Zahalsky, US Medical Director
Dr. Zahalsky is a board certified Internal Medicine physician from Arlington, Virginia who has been in private practice for over thirteen years. He received his M.D. from the Ivy League Brown University Medical School, where he graduated with high honors. He completed his residency training at the renowned Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Zahalsky has a very diverse medical practice. He has a special interest in geriatrics and serves as Medical Advisor for the Emeritus Assisted Living community. He also serves as a Medical Director for Heartland Hospice. Dr Zahalsky is widely respected in the Washington DC metropolitan area and holds multiple university teaching appointments, including Clinical Assistant Professor at Georgetown University. He has trained medical residents, medical students, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. He holds privileges at Virginia Hospital Center, where he has served as Chairman of the Department of Primary Care. He currently serves on the hospital's information technology committee as a “Physician Champion.” Socially, Dr. Zahalsky has been married to his wife Michelle for sixteen years. They have three children ages 11, 9, and 6. He is very active in the local PTA and has coached his youngest son's T-ball team. Dr. Zahalsky is very excited to be a part of the Activ Doctors team. He has been part of the board since the launch in October of 2010.
Dr. James Fish, Medical Director
As a Medical Director for Activ Doctors Online (ADO), Dr. James Fish manages ADO’s telemedicine and recruitment, and is involved with online Second Medical Opinions. Dr. Fish has been practicing for 23 years and specializes in Emergency Medicine. Fish attended Baylor University and acquired his medical degree at Des Moines University; he received his Board Certification in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Fish is originally from McAllen, TX, and now resides and practices at Baptist Health South Florida and Homestead Hospital in Florida. An Emergency Department Medical Director for 19 years, he is a member of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP), American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), Florida CEP and Florida Osteopathic Medical Association. Dr. Fish is a member of the Medical Executive Committee and Chairman of the Credentials Committee at Homestead Hospital. He enjoys motorcycles and fishing in his spare time.
Dr. Borys Loza, Medical Director
Dr. Borys Loza’s primary role as a Medical Director for Activ Doctors Online is to oversee PHR strategy and development. He is also involved with the company’s online Second Medical Opinion service. Dr. Loza brings 25 years of experience to this role. Originally from Buffalo, NY, Dr. Loza completed his undergrad at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He obtained his Medical Degree at the SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine. Dr. Loza is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and currently practices in The Villages, Florida. His principal clinical experience is in Primary Care. Other areas of interest include the integration of Medical Informatics with direct patient care, as well as development of performance improvement projects and programs.
Prof. Valerie Paradis, Paris, France
Pathology Department, Beaujon Hospital
Valérie Paradis, MD PhD, is Professor and Chair of Pathology in the department of Pathology of the Beaujon Hospital in France. She is specialized in liver pathology and transplant. Her main contributions in that field, combining molecular and pathological approaches, are dedicated to benign liver neoplasms, preneoplastic cirrhotic nodules and hepatocellular carcinomas. Her research work, developed in the French National Research Institute (INSERM), aims to gain further insights in the pathogenesis of liver fibrosis and carcinogenesis by novel approachs, including Proteomics. Valérie Paradis is a member of the Board of Advisors for Activ Doctors.
Prof. Jacques Azorin, Paris, France
Jacques Azorin F MD, MsC, is Professor at Paris XIII University and the Head of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at Avicenne Hospital in Bobigny. After being accepted to a hospital internship in Paris in 1974, he spent two years as a resident at the Heart Institute of Montreal, Canada. His research focused on the study of critical and significant coronary artery stenosis. During the second year he dedicated himself to interventional cardiology. In France he trained as a resident in cardiac, visceral, and oncological surgery before deciding to specialize in thoracic and vascular surgery.
Appointed department head in 1991, he developed a technique of videothoracoscopy with pulmonary VATS lobectomy. Currently he leads a team whose research on tracheal surgery is internationally recognized. He teaches at the Faculty of Paris XIII. He is summoned as an expert witness at the Court of Appeal of Paris, the Administrative Tribunal, and a National Expert at the Cour de Cassation. He is general secretary of the French Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Society, Member of the Vascular Surgery Society, and the Respiratory Disease Society. He coordinates a board of Professors of Medicine and Surgery and medical doctors in different fields of medicine to provide professional support to patients and practitioners.
