Goals: Easier Access for 30,000 transplant patients; $250 Million in Savings

MIAMI -  Activ Doctors Online, a global telemedicine innovator that offers personal health records, second medical opinions and e-consults all in one unique integrated web-based platform, has announced that it has partnered with the Assistance Publique Hpitaux de Paris network of 30 government-owned hospitals in France to provide telemedicine services for their transplant patients.

Activ Doctors Online telemedicine solutions will save our patients time and money associated with trips to the hospital, al lowing them to check in with their physicians from the comfort of their homes for some of their follow up care, said Professor Francois Durand, MD, Director of Hepatology and Liver Intensive Care of Paris-based hospital Hpitaux Beaujon, a member of the hospital network. And the hospitals can maintain continuity of care for transplant patients while reducing the number of in-person hospital visits by up to one-third, providing an estimated savings of about $250 million annually in the cost of follow up care for the 30,000 transplant patients in the network.

Currently, transplant patients average approximately two visits per month for follow up care at the hospitals, according to Professor Durand, at a average cost of 3,000 Euros per hospital visit (about $3,600 U.S.)

This marks an important milestone in advancing the Activ Doctors Online mission to change the face of the worlds healthcare by providing people with more control of their medical records and access to the worlds best specialists, said Activ Doctors Online Founder and Chief Executive Officer Florent Monssoh. We are passionate about empowering people to control their health destiny with more intelligent, secure information management tools and easy access to medical experts, he said, noting that Activ Doctors Online was the first provider to introduce telemedicine services to France.

We have long been concerned that the barriers to visit transplant specialists would discourage people from getting the follow-up they really need to ensure that their transplants are successful, stated Dr. Howard Zahalsky, U.S. Medical Director of Activ Doctors Online. This important partnership will allow for better access to health care for patients throughout France. For the first time, patients have the option to get laboratory tests and clinic visits done via the Activ Doctors Online platform, rather than making an extended visit to the hospital.
