Ever wondered what it felt like to have a heart attack? The answer is most likely, “Um, not really.” But, there are about 735,000 heart attack survivors each year that could tell you first hand.
Until recently, Zika was an obscure virus, confined to equatorial Africa and Asia, and only known to specialists in tropical medicine.
The American Heart Association reports that one in five Americans over the age of 40 will develop congestive heart failure, and an estimated 5.8 million Americans are living with and managing the disease. Owing to a rapidly aging population and improved heart attack survival rates, we can expect to add as many as 660,000 new cases to that number each year.
Every day it seems a new diet is ready to make weight loss faster and easier than ever before. These diets may promise results, but many are hard to follow, have arbitrary rules and a few could put your health in danger.
A “fad diet” is a diet that makes promises of weight loss without backing by solid science. Some of the more popular fad diets include: low-carb diets like Atkins or the South Beach diet, the paleo diet and “juicing” or juice fasting.
The main reason people try fad diets is because they’re fat.
Ask the average American what they know about their thyroid and I’d bet that the response you’d get is that they’re pretty sure they have one. It’s only when the thyroid stops working properly that people become aware of its value.
Every New Year brings its own personal goals and challenges, but there are few as ubiquitous (or is it pervasive?) or that carry as much weight (pun absolutely intended!) as getting in shape. According to Neilsen.com, “stay fit and healthy” and “lose weight” top the list of most popular New Year’s resolutions in 2015, appearing on 37% and 32%, respectively, of respondents lists.
